CarPlay, described by Apple as “the ultimate copilot,” lets users connect their iPhone with their car and enjoy Apple’s UI on the car’s screen. Drivers can speak to Siri and make commands; use Maps and Music; and enjoy other apps from their iPhone, such as WhatsApp, Podcasts, News+, SiriusXM Radio, Audible, Pandora, Spotify, and more, right on their car’s built-in display. During WWDC 2022, Apple announced key changes that are coming to CarPlay, taking it several steps forward by integrating multiple built-in displays at once....

As we covered this summer, speech recognition company Speechmatics raised over $60M toward its ambition of global language comprehension. Text-to-speech company Verbit has raised over a quarter million to date. Into that fray steps AI21 Labs, which just raised $64M on a $664M valuation to continue expanding its suite of natural language processing (NLP) offerings. Coursera has built out a series of Academies within Coursera for Business using content from top universities and corporations. These academies are built using Coursera’s SkillSets tools, which offer 42 job-based learning content covering everything from change management to emotional intelligence....

The current estimate of global cryptocurrency users is about 4%, or 300 million people. “This is an innovation and a paradigm shift at least as big as that of the internet,” says Torbjørn Bull Jenssen, CEO of Nordic-based Arcane Crypto, a technology and investment firm focused on bitcoin and digital assets based in Norway. For Dataminr, the Krizo purchase is its second acquisition in four months as it aims to expand its platform. Dataminr said that Krizo’s technology will be integrated into Dataminr Pulse. In July, Dataminr bought Watchkeeper, which offered a geovisualization platform. The acquisition highlights how Dataminr is looking to move beyond real-time information discovery to responding to events. Enterprises have been focused on event monitoring given supply chain disruptions, natural disasters and cyberattacks that can all impact operations....
